Every Child Matters Students celebrate success
 York St John University held a special presentation ceremony to acknowledge participation in a recent Every Child Matters Bite-Sized course, which took place at the Sangat Community Centre in Keighley.

Ten women from the Sangat Community Centre completed the course run by York St John University. The course was designed to provide attendees with a background to the Every Child Matters agenda and an insight into how this impacts on the wider children’s workforce.

 

Sobia Iqbal, one of the course attendees said:

“I had never considered the possibilities of higher education before, but my involvement in the course and the experience of being at York St John University today has shown me that this is a real option open to me.” Find out more

 

Improving teaching and learning through Action Research

On Tuesday 30th March at 4pm, Professor Jean McNiff will be presenting an interactive workshop exploring the potential for Action Research to improve teaching and learning within schools. Free Working with Children and Young People  Taster Session
A free taster session on working with Children and Young People will be held on 24th February from 10am to 12pm at Burton Stone Lane Community Centre. Delivered by Paul Smith, Principal Lecturer, this session will explore the opportunities that exist for those who would like to work with Children and Young People in a variety of employment and voluntary settings. Free Internship Job Opportunities announced
York St John University and City of York Council are pleased to offer two new Internship opportunities. These paid placements are available for three months on a full-time basis or six months on a part-time basis. Work will include researching the workforce development needs of the wider children's workforce (both paid and volutary sector).

These Internships provide a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience within a Higher Education/Local Authority environment. For further information please email l.whitaker@yorksj.ac.uk closing date 1st March 2010.

Free UCAS Personal Statement and Reference advice session for staff supporting HE applicants
Higher York is holding a free UCAS personal statement and reference advice session at John University from 1.45 – 3.45pm on Tuesday 2nd March.

 

This session will cover how to advise students on writing a personal statement and how to write a helpful UCAS reference for a student applying to HE.

 

This training session is appropriate for anyone working with clients considering entering HE from September 2010 onwards. To book a place please email j.evans@higheryork.org
