Action Research in Qatar
Dr Mike Calvert and Dr Margaret Wood have just returned from Doha where they have been conducting an evaluation of the action research initiatives which Professor Jean McNiff and her teaching team have been engaged in since the Autumn. The work was commissioned by Tribal, a large organisation with an international profile in providing training and the overall project was funded by the Supreme Education Council of Qatar. Qatar aspires to a worldclass education system and have identified action research as a key driver in their staff development programmes.

Mike and Margaret visited primary and secondary schools and talked to the participating teachers, attended a SEN workshop, interviewed the teaching team and reviewed the teaching materials including the VLE.

The action research is not currently accredited and one possible future direction might be the accreditation of the teachers' work at M level. It is clear that the level of engagement of many of the teachers is extremely high and they welcome the opportunity to have a voice and for that voice to be heard through their research. Some of the teachers are very capable of performing at M level and this offers an exciting opportunity for teachers to develop without having to leave the country to achieve a Masters.
