This
month
saw the
arrival
of 6
Kenyan
visitors
to YSJ
as part
of a
British
Council
supported
project
to help
improve
the
quality
of
teaching
and
learning
in
Higher
Education
in
Kenya.
They
represent
six
Nairobi
universities
and are
part of
a
35-participant
group
who are
following
the
Postgraduate
Certificate
in
Academic
Practice
(PCAP)
which is
also
recognised
by the
Higher
Education
Academy
(HEA).
The
group
are here
to
experience
HE in
the UK
and, as
well as
having
inputs
on
assessment,
teaching
and
learning,
action
learning
and ICT,
they are
following
a
programme
of
visits
and
excursions
including
a trip
to the
CETLs
(Centres
of
Excellence
in
Teaching
and
Learning)
at LMU
and
Sheffield
University
as well
as a day
trip to
Leeds.
On
Sunday
15th
the
welcome
evening
was
presided
over by
Professor
Dianne
Willcocks,
Vice
Chancellor
and was
attended
by
Salome
Gichura,
Education
Attaché
at the
Kenyan
High
Commission
in
London.
She
expressed
her
gratitude
and
satisfaction
at our
contribution
to
Kenyan
education
via the
project
and the
scholarships
that
have
been
awarded
to
Kenyan
students.
The
group
began
their
visit
with the
graduation
ceremony
at the
Minster
and have
engaged
fully in
the life
of the
University.
Mike
Calvert
will be
working
with
them
next in
January
in
Nairobi
and will
pay at
least
another
four
visits
to Kenya
culminating
in their
graduation
in
October
2010.
