On 5 October 2010, 28 Postgraduate students from five Nairobi universities received their certificates from the DVC, Professor David Maughan Brown. The event was held at Strathmore University, the host Kenyan university followed by a reception. The programme for lecturers was funded by DfID and managed by the British Council. The project aimed to bring about change and improvement in teaching and learning in Higher Education in Kenya. To put the icing on the cake, the lecturers also received a certificate from the HEA and have earned the right to call themselves Fellows of the HEA.
In the afternoon, the Kenyan Alumni Society was launched. This initiative is designed to maintain the strong links with the students and to provide a means by which they can meet, share and support each other in their work. There are already a large number of students and past students in Kenya to add to those who are studying in the UK.
The following day saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Africa Nazarene University (ANU), one of the aforementioned universities. Professor Leah Marangu, VC (ANU) and Professor David Maughan Brown signed the agreement which will see much more closer working between colleagues and, hopefully, students.
