Introduction
This open learning unit aims to provide relevant information, activities and tips to enable you to develop an effective application for Individual Recognition by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) as an Associate Fellow (AFHEA), Fellow (FHEA), Senior (SFHEA) or Principal Fellow (PFHEA) based on the UK Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education (HE). The application process detailed for each HEA award is specific to Teesside University staff. However, most of the information contained in the unit is generic and guidance is provided for staff from other Institutions.
This resource is designed to supplement an introductory session, which may be conducted face-to-face or online, and mentor support however neither of these are mandatory.

2 Minute Intro To The Resources
In the short video clip below, Gillian will introduce the aims and objectives of this learning resource.
Keeping a Record
As you engage with this resource you will be asked to undertake associated activities. These tasks are designed to help you develop your application, so we strongly recommend that you record your thoughts, feelings and responses to the tasks as you go along.
You can use your own personal blogging space or ePortfolio to do this or the journal function that is part of this resource. You can access the journal by clicking on the icon to your left. Please be aware that whilst the journal is confidential to you as the author, it would be possible for the web development team to access the content. Try the journal tool now to get a feel for how it works.
Never used the journal before? As a very quick start guide, once you click on the Journal icon to your left you will be taken to the journal itself. By clicking on the Add New Entry button (which will be on the right hand side of the page), you can create your own journal entry.
