Additional information

Individual recognition is focused on expertise, impact on student learning and context and is NOT determined by role. However, illustrative guidance is provided in the UK Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning (2011) on typical roles or career stages broadly associated with Principal Fellowship.

Descriptor 4 is distinctly different to the other Descriptors. A more detailed exploration of what is required for Descriptor 4 can be found in Framework Guidance Note 2: What are the Descriptors at: http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/ukpsf in the section titled Using Descriptor 4.

Application process

Until the Teesside Professional Development Framework HEA Accreditation is extended to include Descriptor 4/Principal Fellow, application for individual recognition must be made directly to the HEA. However, the cost is substantial and differs depending on whether or not your organisation is a HEA subscribing institution. At Teesside the individual staff member is responsible for this cost and full details on the HEA application process and evidential requirements are available at: http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/principal-fellow

Further Guidance

If you would like further information on becoming a Principal Fellow or wish to link with others undertaking this process, Teesside University should contact either jill.armstrong@tees.ac.uk or gillian.janes@tees.ac.uk and staff from other HEIs should contact the appropriate local institutional lead for academic staff development or learning and teaching.
