Additional information
Individual recognition is focused on expertise, impact on student learning and context and is NOT determined by role. However, illustrative guidance is provided in the UK Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning (2011) on typical roles or career stages broadly associated with Associate Fellowship.
Application process
Option One
Teesside University staff can be recognised as Fellows of the HEA (FHEA) via the CPD Portfolio Route within the institution's HEA accredited Professional Development Framework for L&T. The application consists of:
• covering letter addressed to the Chair of the HEA Fellowships Sub-Group.
• 2000 word scholarly commentary outlining how you meet the requirements of Descriptor 1 of the UK Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning (2011) based on a small number of case studies from your L&T practice, making reference and signposting to the portfolio of supporting evidence.
• portfolio of evidence which supports the scholarly commentary in evidencing effective demonstration of Descriptor 1 of the UK Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning (2011).
• details of two referees of appropriate standing in L&T.
• written support from the relevant Dean/Director.
Option Two
Any member of staff can apply directly to the HEA. However, the cost is substantial, differs depending on whether or not your organisation is a HEA subscribing institution and the individual staff member is responsible for this cost. Full details on the HEA application process and evidential requirements are available at: http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/associate-fellow/applying-to-become-an-associate-fellow
